You’ve heard of Kedarkantha, right? The winter classic with packed trails and 500 people climbing to the summit at sunrise?

Well, this isn’t that.

This is Kedarkantha via Devjani — a route that even most locals don’t take anymore. No crowds. No noise. Just you, the forest, and a path that feels like it was waiting for your footsteps.

You begin in a quiet little village, where time slows down. You’ll spend your first night under the stars, in a home that smells of wood smoke and warm food. The trail from here? Empty. Peaceful. Surreal. Think mossy forest floors, twin waterfalls tucked away in the trees, shepherd clearings where you’ll pitch your tent — and the kind of silence that only the mountains can gift.

By the time you hit the summit at 12,500 ft, it’s not just another Himalayan view. It’s your reward. No summit traffic. No rush. Just you and your team standing where few ever do, looking out at snow-draped peaks with a full heart.

If you’ve done Kedarkantha before, do it again the way it was meant to be — raw, wild, and wonderfully quiet.

Day 1 Drive from Dehradun to Devjani

Drive Distance: ~180 km

Time Taken: 6 hours

Elevation Profile: 2,100 ft to 6,200 ft

You begin your journey from Dehradun early in the morning, driving through the lush pine forests and winding mountain roads of Uttarkashi district. The route offers scenic views of terraced fields, riverside villages, and tall Himalayan ridgelines. You stop along the way for tea and simple meals. Devjani, your base for the night, is a remote Garhwali village with traditional slate-roofed homes and warm, hospitable locals. You stay either in a homestay or our partnered lodge and get your first taste of village life in the Himalayas. It’s a beautiful cultural immersion as you settle in with the sound of the river echoing through the valley.

Day 2 Devjani to Camp 1

Trek Distance: ~4.5 km

Time Taken: 4–5 hours

Elevation Profile: 8,000 ft to 10,480 ft

The forest starts to thin as you leave the dense tree line and gradually enter alpine meadows. On today’s route, you’ll notice makeshift shepherd huts and animal trails cutting across the hillsides. The air gets crisper and the views more expansive. Small patches of snow may start appearing in winter months. Camp 2 is set near a meadow clearing with distant views of surrounding peaks. As temperatures dip in the evening, trekkers huddle around the kitchen tent, sharing stories and hot soup. The silence here is profound, only broken by the whispering winds.

Day 3 Camp 2 to Kedarkantha Summit and back

Trek Distance: ~7 km round trip

Time Taken: 6–8 hours

Elevation Profile: 10,480 ft to 12,500 ft and back

Today is the highlight of your trek. Depending on the group vibe and weather conditions, you’ll either make a sunrise or sunset summit push. The climb begins early and is gradual initially, but gets steeper as you approach the summit ridge. Snow underfoot, cold winds, and breathless anticipation build up as you make your way upward. The final ridge is open and wide, with prayer flags fluttering at the top. From the summit, you witness panoramic views of Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, Black Peak, and ranges deep into Himachal. After photos and celebration, you descend carefully back to Camp 2, where a warm meal and team cheer awaits.

Day 4 Trek back to Devjani and drive to Dehradun

Trek Distance: ~8–9 km

Drive Distance: ~180 km

Time Taken: 3-hour trek + 6-hour drive

Elevation Profile: 10,480 ft to 6,200 ft to 2,100 ft

You begin the descent early after breakfast. The return trek retraces your path through forest and meadow, giving you one last moment with the mountain silence. You reach Devjani by late morning. After freshening up and a quick bite, you begin the return drive to Dehradun. Expect to arrive by early evening, filled with gratitude and the quiet power of a journey well walked.
